In order to ensure the safety of drinking water for residents in schistosomiasis endemic areas and prevent schistosomiasis infection, measures should be taken to eliminate or kill cercariae in the water. These measures are called safe water. Safe water is an important measure to prevent infection.
Eliminate cercariae: dig wells or beat wells far away from toilets and septic tanks, so that the infected water can naturally filter through the underground sand layer and flow into the wells to become cercariae free clean water. When building wells, wells should be built as much as possible, manhole covers should be installed, and public buckets should be provided. Wash ponds and drainage ditches will be built next to the well, and used wastewater will be discharged into the area around the well in time.
In densely populated villages, conditions should be created to gradually build tap water in a planned manner. This is the best way to ensure the safety of drinking water.
For fishermen and boat people who cannot use well water and tap water, they can draw water from deep in the river according to the ecological characteristics of Schistosoma cercariae. The method is: Break the long bamboo pole through the bamboo joints and make a water sink. Place one end of the pumping cylinder deep in the river center, and the other end is placed at the mouth of the water storage tank to pump water from the depth of the river center for drinking.
Kill cercariae: Fishermen, boat people and other mobile people, as well as residents who do not have the conditions to build tap water or dig wells and still drink water from ditches, canals, and river ponds, can heat the water to more than 60 degrees to kill the cercariae in the water. Mash 2 pieces of bleaching essence tablets, add them to 1 tablespoon of water, stir well, and use in 15 minutes. Alternatively, add 12.5 grams of quicklime to 1 load of water and stir well. The effect of killing carnitaria can be achieved after 30 minutes. The infected water can also be placed in a container and used after standing for 48 hours. These methods are simple and easy to operate and can ensure water safety.
