Female yoga teacher gave a demonstration causing cervical disc rupture
According to Taiwan's "Central News Agency" on August 27, 2007, a 30-year-old female yoga teacher in Taiwan demonstrated difficult movements, but caused a rupture of the cervical disc. Doctors reminded that it is best to warm up before activities and avoid improper rotation when the neck is stiff.
A well-known yoga teacher surnamed Wang, who was teaching one day, suddenly felt pain in his left arm like a knife, radiating from his neck to his upper arm. The pain was so bad that he could not lift his hand high. He was sent to Nguyen General Hospital in Kaohsiung City for emergency treatment. An MRI examination revealed that she had ruptured discs in her left sixth and seventh cervical vertebrae and pressed against the nerve roots, which were resolved after emergency consultation and surgery.
Yang Jiaoqiao, a doctor at the hospital, reminded that before engaging in yoga activities, it is best to do some warm-up exercises and avoid improper rotation when the neck is stiff; in addition, when doing various yoga positions, the chin should also be retracted slightly to allow the cervical vertebra to lengthen and keep the entire spine in a natural state, so that the neck will not be excessively twisted or tilted back and caused damage.
