Yi Torch Festival Customs
The Yi Torch Festival is a traditional festival in Yi areas and is popular in Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and other Yi areas. Bai, Naxi, Jino, Lahu and other ethnic groups also celebrate this festival. Torch Festival is mostly held on the 24th or 25th day of June in the lunar calendar and lasts for three days. On the 24th of the sixth month of the lunar calendar, when the handle of the Big Dipper is pointed up, all ethnic groups of the Yi-speaking branch celebrate the Torch Festival.
