The 22 China projects included in the list are: China sericulture and silk weaving skills, Fujian Nanyin, Nanjing Yun brocade weaving skills, Anhui rice paper craftsmanship, Guizhou Dong folk song, Guangdong Cantonese opera,"Gesar" epic tradition, Zhejiang Longquan celadon craftsmanship, Qinghai Regong art, Tibetan opera, Xinjiang "Manas" epic, Mongolian Humai, Gansu Huaer, Xi'an drum music, Korean farmers' music and dance, calligraphy, seal cutting, paper-cutting art, woodblock printing skills, traditional wood structure creation skills, Dragon Boat Festival, Mazu believes in customs.
The fourth meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage opened on September 28 in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
More than 400 representatives from 114 countries and regions around the world attended the meeting.
The three-day meeting mainly discussed and determined the projects to be selected in the "Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" and the "List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Urgent Need of Protection".
Yu Xingyi, deputy director of the Foreign Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Culture of China, who led a delegation, said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua Agency reporters that China ranked first in terms of the number of projects approved for inclusion in the list and received warm congratulations from representatives from all parties participating in the meeting.
They agreed that the Chinese nation is worthy of being an ancient nation with a long history.
China has created rich and excellent intangible cultural heritage for the world and is a huge contribution to world culture.
Yu Xingyi said that the China government actively participated in the formulation of the 2003 UNESCO Convention for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage and became one of the first countries to join the Convention.
China has also formulated a national-level list of protected intangible cultural heritage and holds "China Cultural Heritage Day" in June every year to raise awareness of protecting cultural heritage.
UNESCO adopted the Convention for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage in October 2003, which aims to protect intangible cultural heritage represented by oral traditions, festival etiquette, handicraft skills, music, dance or traditional performing arts.
The Convention entered into force in April 2006.
