What is intangible cultural heritage?

According to the definition of the Convention for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage issued by UNESCO (Article 2), intangible cultural heritage refers to the various social practices, conceptual expressions, manifestations, knowledge, skills, and related tools, objects, handicrafts and cultural sites that are regarded by communities, groups, and sometimes individuals as part of their cultural heritage.

This intangible cultural heritage is passed down from generation to generation and is constantly recreated as communities and groups adapt to their surrounding environment and interact with nature and history, providing these communities and groups with a sense of identity and continuity, thereby enhancing cultural diversity.

Respect for human creativity.

According to the above definition,"intangible cultural heritage" includes the following aspects: 1.

Oral traditions and manifestations, including language as a medium of intangible cultural heritage; 2.

Performing arts; 3.

Social practices, rituals, festivals; 4.

Knowledge and practice about nature and the universe; 5.

Traditional handicrafts.

"Protection" refers to measures to ensure the vitality of intangible cultural heritage, including the identification, documentation, research, preservation, protection, promotion, inheritance (especially through formal and informal education) and revitalization of all aspects of such heritage.

What is the relationship between the list of representative works of human intangible cultural heritage and representative works of human oral and intangible heritage?

UNESCO's "Declarations of Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity"[Note: the term "masterpiece" used here is often translated broadly as "masterpiece"] is the predecessor of the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In November 1997, the 29th General Conference of UNESCO passed a resolution to establish the "Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity (Representative Works)", proposed the title of "Masterpieces (Representative Works)" and named "Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity (Representative Works)" officially named in United Nations documents.

In 2000, UNESCO began to implement the "Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity (Masterpieces)" program, and announced three batches of 90 "Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" in 2001, 2003 and 2005.

What representative projects of human intangible cultural heritage are there in China?

In accordance with the provisions of the Convention for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage adopted on October 17, 2003, UNESCO has established the "Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity", the "List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Urgent Need of Protection" and the "List of Excellent Practices", and was officially launched in 2008.

The 2001, In 2003 and 2005, three batches of 90 "Representative Works of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" were announced to be transferred to the "Representative List of Human Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Works".

The application and review work for the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Urgent Need of Protection and the List of Excellent Practices after the Convention officially came into effect was also officially launched in 2008, March every year.

The deadline for project application for that year is the 31st of the month; the review cycle is every two years, and the final review is usually held at the regular meetings of the Intergovernmental Committee held at the end of November and early December of the following year, and the results are produced.

The Committee has always encouraged many countries to jointly apply for the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and the List of Excellent Practices without quota.

So far, a total of 38 projects in my country have been included in the above three "directories"/"rosters".
