Czechoslovak folk stories: stories of advice
there's an old man with two daughters.
and when he married two daughters, he said to his companion: "mother, give all our things to the daughter." the old lady said, "daddy, don't split! that's it! when we die, they'll inherit!" "no! let's split them!" the old man decided.
he gave it all to his daughter.
after less than two months of respect for the father, the two daughters became less and less respectful of him, not even visiting him.
then i forgot all about him.
he's having a hard time thinking about it.
he can't leave it.
on one occasion, he wandered in the field and met an old friend.
the guy said, "old man, why don't you have fun? what's bothering you? you used to be happy." "i did something wrong.
my friend says, "don't worry! this money's for you.
go get your daughter-in-law and get me." the old man prepared a rich lunch.
when the guests arrived, the friends said to the master, "brother, i don't need the money, you need it! enough for you to die!" the old man took the case and hid it in the middle.
the two old friends had a deal.
they knew what it was.
a daughter whispered to her husband's ear at the table: "see? dad's got a lot of money! we'll take care of our parents and we'll leave the money to us." and the other daughter said to her husband, "dear, we have to come visit dad a lot and respect him!" the party was over, and the guests were gone.
from that day until death, the old man was never sad again.
later, death came and his father left no will.
the daughter's son-in-law went to the box.
the case was found, but it was full of garbage -- pieces of debris, broken glass.
the girls were very surprised, thinking, "it's easy to split up!"
