Orthopedic surgeon: Do not encourage the elderly to practice yoga
Osteohyperplasia is also known as proliferative osteoarthritis, osteoarthritis OA, degenerative arthropathy, senile arthritis, and hypertrophic arthritis. The elderly are prone to hyperosteogeny. What are the clinical symptoms of hyperosteogeny? How to treat bone hyperplasia? How to treat hyperosteogeny in the elderly? Experts say it is inappropriate for elderly patients with hyperosteogeny to practice yoga.
Teacher Tang, 76 years old, was a professor in the Department of Biology at Zhejiang Education University before retiring. He started practicing yoga during the Spring Festival in 2005. "At first, I just taught myself at home through books and DVDs. My old lady watched me practice one-leg splitting at home and was so scared that she almost fainted. My students advised me to go to a professional yoga studio to study formally."
"I was very worried that people wouldn't want me when I signed up. I didn't say my age when I called for consultation." Teacher Tang said. Xiao Sun, a front desk staff member at the yoga studio, still remembers the scene when Teacher Tang came to sign up."Teacher Tang was 74 years old when he signed up, which was really unexpected."
Xiao Sun introduced that currently, male members who insist on training in the yoga studio account for one-third of the total members, and most of the students are between 30 and 40 years old.
What to call him? The yoga instructor is in trouble
"When I first signed up, I came five days a week. Except for the slimming and beauty series specially designed for women, I came to learn everything else." Teacher Tang is recognized by the yoga studio teachers as the most diligent student.
"Teacher Tang's movements are in place and he takes notes in class. All movements will be slowly practiced and consolidated after learning them." Coach Yu said,"When doing advanced postures such as putting his head on the ground and bending his knees, Teacher Tang's hands and feet will shake. I am quite worried. When correcting other students, he dare not leave his eyes. Sometimes I advise him not to practice, but Teacher Tang still insists on practicing. To be honest, sometimes young people are not as good as his muscles.
Coach Yu praised Teacher Tang highly. The only thing that embarrassed him was,"I don't know what to call him." Coach Yu said,"At first, I called him Grandpa, but he was unhappy, so I called him a classmate, but he felt it was impolite. Later, when I heard that he was a professor, I called him Teacher Tang."
After practicing yoga, you can eat meat if you want
"I used to engage in biological research. Yoga is a science that combines the views of Western human anatomy and respiration. If you don't cooperate with breathing methods, there is no difference between yoga and radio gymnastics." Teacher Tang said,"But yoga is not radio gymnastics after all. It is a science, a philosophy, and a way of life."
"Before practicing yoga, I had chronic enteritis and had diarrhea when I ate a little meat the size of soybeans. However, my waist was still 2 feet 4 and a half inches and I weighed 130 kilograms. I felt tired even after riding a bicycle for 2 stops. After practicing yoga, I now have a waist of 2 feet 2 feet 2 and a weight of 105 kilograms. I can ride from Wushan Square to Jiulian New Village without any problem. I have given away a lot of pants now, so I can eat meat if I want." Teacher Tang said,"However, I dare not persuade my old friends to come and practice with me. Some of them now have difficulty tying their shoelaces with their heads lowered."
Orthopedic surgeon: Do not encourage the elderly to practice yoga
"Under normal circumstances, yoga is not recommended for the elderly." Experts said,"As we age, many physiological functions of the elderly begin to degrade. Judging from the three reasons: bone hyperplasia, ligament calcification, and easy muscle damage, the elderly are not suitable for practicing yoga. Especially for elderly people with hyperosteogeny, they are even less likely to practice yoga."
First, most of the hyperosteogeny occurs in the cervical and lumbar vertebrae, which is a common disease in middle-aged and elderly people. Appropriate physical exercise can prevent hyperosteogeny. But once you get hyperosteogeny, because the intensity of yoga is difficult to control by yourself, and the movements of the waist and neck are inevitable, it can easily cause damage.
Second, after the ligament deteriorates, it gradually becomes hard, and the flexibility and elasticity of the body are very poor. If you do yoga, it is easy to strain the ligament.
Third, muscles are relatively poor in emergency response, and muscles are prone to spasm when doing traction exercises.
There are many sports events suitable for the elderly to exercise. Appropriate events can be selected based on factors such as age, gender, physical status, hobbies and surrounding environmental conditions.
Experts suggest that elderly people between the ages of 60 and 70 can swim, practice Tai Chi, and dance Yangko, but the range of attention should not be too large and the exercise time should be half an hour.
From the perspective of sports medicine, mountain climbing is not an appropriate exercise for the elderly. The heart and lungs of the elderly are often at full capacity, and some even have underlying diseases. Mountain climbing is an exercise that overloads the heart and can easily lead to serious consequences.
In addition, the elderly have varying degrees of joint diseases, especially the degeneration of the knee joint. Going up and down the mountain will increase the joint load, cause joint pain and swelling, and damage joint function. Therefore, the elderly are not encouraged to participate in sports such as mountain climbing and stairs climbing.
Experts said,"Generally, the supporting exercise facilities in the community are more suitable for the elderly, but no matter what exercise you do, the intensity of exercise depends on your physical condition. It is best to exercise together."
70-80 It is best for the elderly between the ages of 20 and 20 to take a walk. The elderly aged 80-90 do not advocate emphasizing special sports and fitness. (Editor in charge: Chen Shaopeng)
