Recently, a research team composed of scientists from Sweden and India announced that yoga can make practitioners feel happy physically and mentally, and can also reverse the pathological and biochemical changes caused by metabolic syndrome. It is reported that the research results have been published in the authoritative academic journal "Journal of Diabetes Research and Clinical Applications".

Agorawal, a scientist from India, selected 101 adults with symptoms of metabolic syndrome and asked 55 of them to practice yoga, while the rest received general medical care. Three months later, it was found that compared with people receiving general medical care, people who did yoga had significantly lower waist circumference, blood pressure, blood sugar and body fat, while high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, which belongs to good cholesterol, was relatively higher.

Scientist Shelgren from Sweden selected 55 healthy adults to study the benefits of yogic breathing. For up to 6 weeks, the study subjects were divided into two groups. One group practiced yoga breathing movements for 1 hour a day, including slow, normal and rapid breathing movements. The other group rested in an easy chair for 15 minutes each day. It was found that compared with the other group, the study subjects who practiced yoga felt significantly lower anxiety, stress and depression, while their optimism index was relatively higher.

Professor Sattiglu, head of the joint scientific team, said that yoga not only prevents metabolic syndrome caused by poor lifestyles, but also has a good auxiliary effect when the disease attacks. (Internship Editor: Li Jianhong)
