Taiwanese female teacher demonstrated difficult yoga moves causing cervical disc rupture

According to a report by Taiwan's "Central News Agency", a well-known yoga teacher surnamed Wang suddenly felt pain in his left arm like a knife during teaching one day, radiating from his neck to his upper arm. The pain was so bad that he could not lift his hand high. He was sent to Nguyen General Hospital in Kaohsiung City for emergency treatment. An MRI examination revealed that she had ruptured discs in her left sixth and seventh cervical vertebrae and pressed against the nerve roots, which were resolved after emergency consultation and surgery.

Yang Jiaoqiao, a doctor at the hospital, said that yoga has become a fashionable exercise in recent years, but there are some movements in yoga positions such as bending back, lowering and twisting. If you are not careful, you will cause sports injuries such as severe bending of the spine.

She pointed out that the spine is composed of a series of vertebrae. If the intervertebral discs between the vertebrae are excessively squeezed against each other, the cartilage in the middle will easily be dehydrated or abnormally worn, causing protrusion or rupture, which in turn compresses the nerves. This is disc rupture and nerve root compression. In severe cases, the pain will be so painful that it will be difficult to lift your hands.

Yang Jiaoqiao reminded that before engaging in yoga activities, it is best to do some warm-up exercises and avoid improper rotation when the neck is stiff; in addition, when doing various yoga positions, the chin should also be retracted slightly to lengthen the cervical vertebra., and keep the entire spine in a natural state, so that the neck will not be excessively twisted or tilted back and caused damage.
