Practicing yoga, a 30-year-old person develops a 60-year-old spine
Yoga has become wildly popular in Guangzhou in recent years. It is considered to be an emerging sport that can not only slim down and shape the body, improve body flexibility, and calm the mind. It is popular among white-collar workers, teacher nurses, students and other groups. However, when a Taiwanese hospital recently performed spinal magnetic resonance scans on a group of senior yoga enthusiasts, it was found that two-thirds of the test participants had severe wear and degeneration of the lumbar and cervical vertebrae, and the spine of people in their thirties who practiced yoga deteriorated to the point of sixty years old. Orthopedic doctors in Guangzhou said that citizens who are injured by improper yoga often come to seek medical treatment, and yoga instructors are "fidgeting" because of excessive practice and spraining their buttocks.
A 30-year-old develops a 60-year-old spine
Taiwan's Cathay Pacific Hospital recently performed magnetic resonance imaging on 18 senior yoga enthusiasts to understand the impact of regular yoga on the spine. Zheng Qingming, director of the hospital's advanced medical imaging examination center, said that many yoga movements, such as bending the waist back, leaning forward and twisting, can cause severe bending of the spine. Many people challenge difficult movements in order to improve body flexibility, resulting in excessive strain on the spine. "Some people are only in their thirties, but magnetic resonance scans found that they look like the spine of a person in their sixties." He said that if you use your strength incorrectly, long-term practice of yoga will cause your spine to age prematurely.
Zheng Qingming explained that squeezing between vertebrae can cause compression of nerve lines, causing sciatica. If you continue to practice without knowing that your spine is damaged, you will result in compression fractures of your spine. If the cervical vertebra shows cartilage bulge due to improper practice, and if you continue to perform shoulder and neck handstands and other movements at this time, your neck may be broken.
Female coach rushed to the game with lumbar dislocation
The orthopedics and rehabilitation physiotherapy departments of many hospitals in Guangzhou have said that there are many patients injured by practicing yoga. Li Wanlin, director of the Department of Acupuncture and Orthopedics at Huarui Hospital Affiliated to Southern Medical University, said that last year, a yoga instructor in his 30s came to the hospital for treatment and pointed to his butt and kept talking. After some communication, I learned that he sprained his buttocks by practicing yoga. It was so painful that he couldn't sit down or sleep. After examination, the doctor found that his buttocks had been sprained many times, but he never cared about it, thinking that it was just because of excessive practice that caused backache.
Coincidentally, the Orthopedic Department of the Second Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Guangdong Province recently accepted a female yoga instructor in her 30s. The woman said that as more and more people practice yoga, her social status has also risen, and she attends several sessions every day. Not only do you have to start early education until late, but sometimes you have to start doing movements before you have time to warm up. Not long ago, she suddenly felt pain in her lumbar spine and could not even turn around, so she stopped working to see a doctor. After diagnosis, the doctor found that her lumbar facet joint was dislocated. If not treated in time, it can easily lead to lumbar disc herniation or compress lower limb nerves, causing difficulty in movement.
According to Dr. Fan Dehui, head of the First Orthopedic District of the Second Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine,"There are many such patients. The oldest one is a 71-year-old mother-in-law. After practicing yoga for three years, she challenged difficulties and strained her knee ligament. She needed physical therapy."
Don't be careless when practicing sore back pain
Director Li Wanlin said that from a medical point of view, yoga can improve the strength of muscles, femoral tendons and ligaments. However, there are currently many yoga classes on the market, which excessively pursue difficult movements, causing chronic pain in the shoulders, neck and lumbar spine of students. He said that yoga enthusiasts have injuries in their waist, neck and legs, with the most common being strained ligaments. Most people require excessive difficulty and perfection of the movements. However, some people who originally have lumbar spine disease can easily aggravate their condition after practicing yoga.
Some people often feel sore back after practicing yoga. Doctors remind that if the pain lasts for two days, they should go to the hospital for a check-up as soon as possible to avoid delaying their condition.
Private yoga studios are difficult to ensure
The popularity of yoga has boosted a large number of yoga studios. Although large-scale professional fitness centers are the top spot, the slightly smaller ones are not willing to be inferior. Even in large communities, there are private classes. Nowadays, practicing yoga is the most popular sport among white-collar workers. When chatting, we talk about who defeated which difficult movements. However, when they heard that practicing yoga improperly would hurt their spines, they were so scared that they asked reporters why. A young lady who usually attends private classes in a residential area even said she would withdraw from class.
Miss Ding works in a foreign bank. As an employee benefit, the company cooperates with a certain bodybuilding center to organize employees to practice yoga for 10 yuan per class, and each class is opened for about 30 people. "That teacher has a good figure and can do many difficult movements. Many colleagues go for the purpose of beauty, body shape and weight loss." Miss Ding told reporters,"But I just want to loosen the ligaments. I do what I can for difficult movements."
Community yoga studios are even more open and popular. Click on many community forums, and there are posts about class opening. A yoga class teacher in Junjing New City said that he only accepted about 8 to 10 students in this class. She admitted that she does not run a professional yoga living center, but because she graduated from a dance academy and has been practicing yoga for more than five years,"she should be able to guide students to practice step by step."
Citizen Miss Li told reporters that she practiced in a private yoga studio in the community because of her desire for convenience and cheapness. But after hearing that improper yoga practice could easily hurt her spine, she made up her mind to change to a professional yoga studio to avoid unnecessary injuries. (Internship Editor: Wu Jinyu)
