Low-blood sugar foods that lose weight and lower cholesterol
A study by Australia researchers shows that low-glycemic index foods help overweight people lose body fat while lowering bad cholesterol, which increases the risk of heart disease and stroke.
The glycemic index is an index used to calculate the effect of carbohydrates on blood sugar levels, with a base of 100. Foods with a glycemic index below 55 are called low-glycemic index foods and include cereals, soy products, milk, potatoes and fruits. Foods with a high glycemic index such as biscuits can cause blood sugar to rise rapidly, while foods with a low glycemic index can make people more tolerant to hunger, promote fat decomposition and reduce bad cholesterol levels.
According to a report in the online edition of New Scientist magazine on the 25th, 189 overweight or obese adults aged 18 to 40 participated in a study organized by the University of Sydney in Australia. During the 12-week study, the researchers asked them to choose one of four low-fat, low-calorie foods to eat.
The first food is rich in carbohydrates but has a low glycemic index;
The second food is rich in carbohydrates and has a high glycemic index;
The third food is rich in protein and has a high glycemic index;
The fourth food is rich in protein but has a low glycemic index.
After adhering to the above foods for 3 months, all participants lost weight, ranging from 4.2% to 6.2% of their overall weight. But low-glycemic index foods reduce the most body fat. For example, people who ate the first food lost 80% more fat than those who ate the second food. (Internship Editor: Wu Jinyu)
