Think of your essence as a ray of light, from one center to the next, coming up from the spine, and thus rising "life" within you.
There are many yoga methods based on this, first understanding what it is and then applying it. The spine is the foundation of your body and mind. Your mind and your head are the end of your spine. The entire body is rooted in the spine. If the spine is young, you are young; if the spine is old, you are old; If you can keep your spine young, it will be difficult for you to grow old. Everything depends on your spine. If your spine is alive, you will have a very clear mind. If your spine is dull and dead, you will have a dull mind. The whole yoga is trying in various ways to make your spine alive, clear, young, fresh, and fill it with light.
The spine has two ends, the beginning being the sexual center and the top being sahasrar (seventh center located on the top of the head). The beginning of the spine is attached to the earth (attached to the earth), and sex is the most worldly thing in you. You come into contact with nature, with the world and matter from the center where your spine starts; and you come into contact with the divine spirit from the last center, from the second end, from the Sahasra above your head. These are the two poles of your existence: the first pole is sex, the second pole is Sahasra. There is no word sahasra in English. These are the two poles: either your life is towards sex, or your life is towards Sahasra; or your energy flows down from the sexual center and back to Earth, or your energy is released from Sahasra into the universe. You flow from Sahasra into Brahmin and into absolute existence, and you flow from sex downward and into relative existence. These are two streams, two possibilities. Unless you start moving upwards, your pain will never end. You may glimpse happiness, but only briefly, and it will be very illusory.
As the energy starts to flow upward, you will have more real glimpses (glimpses of the divine nature), and once it reaches Sahasra and is released from there, you will have absolute joy, which is nirvana, then there is no such thing as a glimpse, you become joy itself, so for Tantra or yoga, the whole thing is how to lift the energy up through the spine, through the spinal cord, and how to help the energy move up against gravity. Sex is very easy because it follows gravity, the earth pulls everything down, and your sexual energy is pulled down by the earth. You may not have heard of it, but astronauts felt that when they were separated from gravity, they wouldn't feel a lot of sexual thoughts. When the body lost weight, the sexual thoughts dissolved and disappeared.
The earth pulls the energy of your life down, which is natural, because the energy of life comes from the earth, and the earth pulls it back, and everything goes back to its source. If it continues to move in this way, the energy of life will retreat again and again, then you are circling in circles, and you will be circling in circles for many, many lives. Unless you jump out like an astronaut, otherwise you will continue to circle in this way infinitely. You must jump out of that circle like an astronaut, so that the pattern of gravity will be shattered, it can be shattered!
The techniques discussed here are techniques of how to crush gravity, techniques of how energy rises vertically within you to reach a new center, techniques of how new energy can be displayed within you, making you a new person in every move. When energy is released from your Sahasra, from the opposite pole of sex, you are no longer human, you do not belong to this earth, you have become divine, and that is what we mean by saying that Krishna is God, or Buddha is God, their bodies are like yours, their bodies can get sick and die, and everything that happens to their bodies is the same as what happens to your body. There is only one thing that happens to your body that won't happen to them, and that is: energy has shattered the patterns of gravity.
But you can't see that, it's something your eyes can't see. Sometimes, when you sit next to the Buddha, you can feel this. Suddenly, you will feel an energy suddenly rising within you, and your energy will start to move up. Only then will you know that something has happened, and just through contact with the Buddha, your energy will start to move up towards Sahasra. Buddha is very powerful and powerful, even the earth is not so powerful, it cannot pull your energy down, and those who feel this around Jesus, Buddha, or Krishna call them gods, and they have a different source of energy, and that energy seems to be stronger to humans than the earth.
How can that pattern be shattered? This technique is very useful for shattering that pattern. First, you need to understand the basics. First, if you look carefully, you will definitely notice that your sexual energy follows your imagination. Just through imagination, your sexual center starts to work. In fact, it cannot work without imagination, which is why it works better if you fall in love with someone, because imagination comes in with love, and if you don't have love, it's very difficult and it won't work.
Sexual centers work through imagination, which is why you can erect and ejaculate even in dreams, which is a fact, and dreams are just imagination. According to observations, every man, if he is healthy, will have at least several erections at night. Every time the mind moves, as long as there is a trace of sexual thought, an erection will occur. Your mind has many energies and many abilities, one of which is will, but you cannot use your will on sex. For sex, will is incompetent. If you try to love someone, you will feel that you have become incompetent, so never try. Will never works with sex. Only imagination works. Imagine, and then the center will start to work. Why should I emphasize this fact? Because if imagination helps the energy move, then you can move the energy up or down just by imagination. You cannot move your blood through imagination, and you cannot do anything else to your body through imagination, but sexual energy can move through imagination, and you can change its direction.
This scripture says: "Think of your essence as light..." Think of yourself, your existence as light,"... from one center to the next, up from the spine", from your spine,"so 'life' rises within you." Yoga divides your spine into seven centers, the first being the sexual center, the last being Sahasra, and there are five centers in between. Some systems divide it into nine centers, some into three centers, and some into four. This division is not very meaningful. You can make your own division, as long as five centers are enough. The first is the sexual center, the second is just behind the navel, the third is just behind the heart, the fourth is right between your eyebrows, right in the middle, right in the middle of your forehead, and the fifth-Sahasra, right on the top of your head, these five will do it.
This passage says,"Think of yourself", which means imagine yourself, close your eyes and imagine yourself as if you were light. This is not just imagination, at the beginning, it was imagination, but it is also real existence, because everything is made of light. Now, science says that everything is made of electricity, but Tantra has always said that everything is made of particles of light, and you are also made of particles of light, which is why the Koran says: God is light. You are the light! First imagine that you are just light, then move your imagination to the sexual center, focus your attention there, and feel the light rising from the sexual center, as if the sexual center becomes the source of light, and the light is moving upward, towards the center of the navel. Division is needed because it is difficult for you to connect the sexual center and Sahasra, so a small division will help, and if you can connect, then there is no need for division, you can abandon all divisions from above your sexual center, and that energy, that vitality, will rise up like light towards Sahasra. But dividing will be more helpful because your mind can easily imagine smaller fragments.
