Coaching Training: The Science of Meditation
Scientists have found that when a person sits in a lotus sitting position, even if he does not sit still and meditate, his brain waves immediately change from beta waves to alpha waves. This change means that a person's mind has become calmer. When we sit down and sit still, we find some impure thoughts emerging in our minds. A rough mind (conscious mind) is turbulent. It swims around through its five sensory organs (eyes, ears, nose, tongue, skin) and five mobile organs (vocal cords, hands, feet, anus, genitalia), just like ten wild horses. A great yogi once said,"The mind is like a drunken monkey stabbed by a scorpion." The endless human mind blindly runs from the enjoyment of one sense to the enjoyment of another, like a drunken monkey addicted to alcohol. It is also like being stabbed by a scorpion of jealousy, greed and arrogance, and being struck by hatred. Therefore, the greatest conquers on earth are those who conquer their own hearts.
How can one conquer this turbulent desire? How to get a calm mind? Only through meditation can there be a solution! Meditation is a spiritual science. Those who teach meditation need to have a higher understanding of their own self, so only those who have spiritual practice and practice experience can teach meditation.
According to modern medical experiments: When a person skilled in Zen or yoga meditation sits quietly, their brain waves are continuous alpha waves; when a person engages in rational thinking or worry or tension, most of his brain waves are beta waves. Beta waves have a more irregular rhythm.
Alpha waves represent a state of no anxiety or tension. When a person sits quietly, his brain waves will change from beta waves to alpha waves. Most people only have theta waves when sleeping, but during deeper meditation, most of the brain waves are theta waves and are associated with the subconscious mind.
As meditation becomes deeper, theta waves will become delta waves. Through meditation training, the mind will be systematically rebuilt into a healthier and more coordinated state. Scientific experiments have shown that sitting still can reduce depression, stress, apathy, headaches, insomnia and absent-mindedness, and can increase attention and memory. The autonomic nervous system (part of the nerves that control internal functions of the human body) is connected to the hypothalamus of the human brain and is controlled by the limbic system of the midbrain. Sitting quietly affects a person's midbrain and stabilizes the hypothalamus and emotions.
The structure of the human brain is similar to that of a walnut and can be divided into two parts. The left side controls the right side of the body, and the right side controls the left side of the body. The left brain of a person is analytical, logical and rational, so it tends to science and mathematics. The right brain is intuitive and creative, so it tends to music and art. With the development of science and technology, we have ignored the development of the right brain. Therefore, in order to coordinate the development of intelligence and intuition, it is necessary to practice meditation. Lack of integration of different parts of the brain leads to instability in body functions. Stress and disease arise when different parts of the brain function inordinately. And by sitting still we can avoid these problems. Sitting quietly increases our concentration and reduces frustration, pain and frustration. The meditator discovers that the inner world is the source of refined human happiness.
When a person is sitting quietly, blood flow to the brain increases by 35%. The amount of blood provided to the brain is closely related to our spiritual abilities. Moreover, as the blood volume increases, the relative oxygen level increases, and as a result, brain function also improves. Sitting quietly can also give our bodies more rest, because when sitting quietly, the oxygen level in the body will drop by 20%, and people will feel complete relaxation.
A long time ago, yogis knew and taught that life can be controlled. The left vein (Ida) and the right vein (Pingala) are the positive and negative nerve centers, and they intersect in the posterior spine. Through life-controlled practices, yogis develop finer thought projections and intuitions. Life can control ten types of vayus or life breath in the body. The life energy in the human body is composed of these ten kinds of life auras, which play a very important role in the body. Through life energy control, people can control these ten auras. Life can control and increase memory, and develop intelligence and subconscious mind (or the body's second chakra-the reproductive chakra).
This breathing technique is not only coordinated with the energy of the body, but also related to the harmony and tranquility of the mind. Scientists say: "When a person's breathing is fast, messy and shallow, the mind is also in a disturbed state. When the breathing is regular, deep and stable, the mind becomes stable and the thought process becomes clear." Life energy control can help control the life energy in the body and increase the period during which life energy is temporarily suspended, which can help the mind accept refined ideas.
Pleasant food is important for meditation. The so-called pleasant food refers to food that does not stimulate the body and soul. Our body is made up of countless cells, and these cells need pure pleasant food to be formed. Pure food develops pure cells, and pure cells develop a pure mind. Each cell has a mind (latent and undeveloped) that is different from the individual human mind. The relationship between metaplastic cells and primary cells forms the synthetic structure of the body and mind. The human mind has a direct relationship with the primary and epigenetic cells of the body. The nature of the food and water we eat affects cells and, in turn, the mind. Practicing meditation and yoga asanas, coupled with ingesting pleasant foods, can develop our body and soul.
Everything in the world has energy in it, and this energy is the core of every element. A synthetic material structure is composed of five basic elements, which are aether, wind, fire, water, and earth. There is also a core in this synthetic structure, which is the collective core of the cores of all individual elements, and this core is called life energy.
The human body is also composed of these five basic elements. Every element in the human body also has energy like other synthetic material structures. This is the core. The life energy in this person's body can be converted into mechanical energy and also into magnetic energy. Snakes catch prey by using their magnetic energy. Certain aquatic organisms, such as electric eels, can generate electricity and use it to capture prey. If you accidentally touch such an animal, you will feel an electric current. People can do many incredible things through the transformation power of energy.
Through the practice of yoga asana, one can develop glands; through meditation, one can develop the soul. Body and mind influence each other. When the body and mind are pure and develop, spiritual growth begins.
Through meditation, our vital energy is transformed into spiritual energy. Many spiritual practitioners do many good things for the entire world because they can use all their spiritual power for the well-being of society. (Internship Editor: Wu Jinyu)
