Men who sleep poorly tend to have big bellies

"Many men with poor sleep quality have beer bellies, and men with beer bellies often do not sleep well."

Professor Chen Yanfang, chairman of the China Sleep Research Association and an expert member of Beijing Huilongguan Hospital, said that when the United States, the world's largest "fat country", conducted a statistical analysis of obese people, it discovered the two-way correlation between beer belly, or centripetal obesity, and sleep problems, although the causal relationship between the two is not yet clear.

The reasons for the formation of beer bellies are complex. In addition to factors such as genetics, diet, and exercise, what many people don't understand is that poor sleep quality is also a major culprit.

Professor Chen Yanfang said that people's sleep conditions are gradually declining from youth to middle age to old age. What is more prominent is the deterioration of the quality of slow-wave sleep, commonly known as deep sleep, which is important for people's overall health. It plays an important role in helping the body eliminate fatigue, immune disease resistance, etc.

In addition, middle-aged men often play the role of "pillars" in their families and society, and their sleep conditions are worse under "overwhelming pressure". The influence of comprehensive physiological, psychological and social factors changes the neuroendocrine status of the body, and the secretion of adrenal cortex and gonadal hormones increases.

These will make it easy for fat to accumulate in the abdomen, causing central obesity, which is a beer belly. Central obesity is closely related to the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension.

Professor Chen Yanfang suggested that if middle-aged men in office workers want to improve their sleep quality and stay away from beer bellies, they should still start with the word "move".

Sleep is originally a physiological phenomenon. As long as you maintain a regular and orderly life that combines dynamic and static, sleep will come naturally.

For middle-aged men who often engage in mental work, they should keep walking for half an hour in the morning and afternoon every day, and take 15 minutes to rest at noon without having to fall asleep. Closing their eyes and resting quietly can relax the brain, which is important for maintaining the body. The dynamic and static balance is very helpful and can also promote sleep well.
