New Zealand's 18-day driving tour around South Island to experience different customs and beautiful scenery in Oceania
Day 2: 2013.03.30, Saturday. arrived in Sydney
The time of arriving in Sydney is 11:00 am local time on 2013.03.30, which is equivalent to 08:00 am Beijing time, with a 3-hour time difference. Get off the plane, go through customs, and collect your luggage. It went well. All procedures were completed in about 30 minutes. A girl traveling with him had her luggage checked. She was very nervous because she couldn't understand English... We went to ask and thought that she had reported some restricted items during the declaration. The result was no, it was just a random inspection. RP problem.
Air New Zealand allows check-in 6 hours before departure. We repacked our luggage at the airport and changed into summer and autumn clothes with the warm climate of Oceania. It took 12:30 local time to go to the New Zealand Air counter to check in. The main reason is to check my luggage and go to Sydney to play in a down-to-earth manner. This way, you don't have to pay for storage luggage.
Last picture of Sydney's urban area with tips for poor travel. There is also a subway route map. We are short of time and heavy tasks. So head straight around the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House. It can be seen from the picture that the Harbour Bridge, the Opera House and the Royal Botanic Garden are all around the Circular Quay Metro Station. The airport line is direct. Before leaving the country, I exchanged 300 Australian dollars at the Bank of China, and the exchange rate was 1:6.5157. The round-trip fare to Circular Quay on the airport line is $30.60/person. You can swipe your card. The bus runs every 10 minutes. 21 minutes one way. It should be noted that at some subway stations in Sydney, multiple lines stop at that station, so when a train enters the station, check to see if this train is the line you want to take. There will be train information on the electronic reminder board, stating which route this train is on and which route the next train is on. Very convenient. Just pay attention.
The exit of Circular Quay Metro Station is Sydney Circular Quay, where children who take ferries to the zoo can change ferries. We walked along the harbor towards the Opera House. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the entrance of the Opera House. There are so many people on the weekend.
There are Australian little parrots that like sweets in the park, as well as skuas and many unknown birds, hehe. The skua looks like a chicken thief!
I was very hungry when I returned to the airport from downtown Sydney. Because I was in a hurry, I only bought M at the airport and ate it hastily. Even so, by the time we passed the security check and arrived at the boarding gate, the plane was about to take off and began to broadcast a search call... We were the last six to board the plane and were told by the flight attendant... Hey! I will definitely do it earlier next time. It's so embarrassing ~! You should arrive at the boarding gate at least half an hour early.
I remember what happened when I checked in for Air New Zealand at Sydney Airport, and let me talk about it here. First of all, NZ Airlines 'check-in counter is fully self-service. You need to scan your passport, print your boarding pass and baggage check slip at the self-service terminal. Then stick the baggage check slip to the baggage to be checked, and then go to the manual check-in counter to check in. Secondly, the weight of checked baggage of NZ Airlines is not more than 10kg per person. Even if two guests travel together, a single piece of baggage cannot exceed 10kg. This rule is different from that of domestic airlines. So in order not to pay the exorbitant excess baggage fee, Ben Niu struggled to repack her luggage at the check-in counter... For convenience when going abroad, my husband and I only brought a 29-inch box and a Bangkok bag. The weight of the box is 13kg. I poured the heavy and unafraid thing into my Bangkok bag before I passed the test successfully. Please encourage everyone together... The weight of hand luggage is no more than 7kg ~
The seat ranking of New Zealand is 3-3. It is a small plane, but the entertainment facilities are very NB! The in-flight catering also offers New Zealand small beer ~ regular, non-alcoholic and draft beer. There are also tequila and Remy Martin spirits that you can buy for a fee. Departs at 17:40 local time and arrives at Christchurch Airport at 23:45 pm local time on March 30. There is a 1-hour time difference between New Zealand and Australia.
We made an appointment with the car rental company to pick up the car at 9 a.m. on March 31. The pick up point will be close to the city. The car rental company promised to reimburse the travel expenses incurred to the pick up point. In order to save time and accommodation costs, we decided to spend the night at Christchurch Airport on the evening of the 30th. This is the Christchurch Airport rated as the best overnight stay ~24-hour hot shower, carpeted overnight area, find a location with power, and start experiencing it ~
When I slept late in the middle of the night, I felt a headache... After all, it's autumn in New Zealand, and the wind is strong at night. The overnight area is close to the door, and there is always wind blowing in. I had to get up and sit on the chair. But the chair is not allowed. Security personnel will come by from time to time. When you lay down, he comes over and advises you to get up. There is always a nagging on the loudspeaker, saying that please rest in the designated overnight area and not sleep on the chair.
I walked all over Christchurch International Airport while I had nothing to do. The first floor is the international arrival area with two toilets. One bathroom is relatively large, with two shower rooms inside and a direct-drinking faucet outside. The other bathroom is relatively small, with only two toilets and nothing else. If you are hungry, there is a 24-hour coffee shop next to the larger bathroom. The I-site (Message Service Center) has a large number of free maps and guides to read. Several large international car rental companies, such as AVIS, Hertz, etc., have their own counters on the first floor, but they are not open 24 hours a day. There is the counter of VODAFONE, a telecom operator in New Zealand, which is the place where we sleep. The daily business hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is an ATM that supports UnionPay cards. I withdrew $600 New Zealand dollars there, with face values of $20 and $50. I used an ICBC debit card. It cost 15 yuan for a handling fee. Including handling fees, the exchange rate is about 1:5.3. Don't inquire after inserting the card. There is also a handling fee for overseas inquiry of balance. ICBC charges RMB 4 for each inquiry.
The second floor is the international departure area. There are 4 or 5 shopping stores here where you can find $5 of sheep grease and postcards and stamps. There are 7 or 8 fast food restaurants. Basically all stores close around 9 p.m. After 5 a.m., Burger King opened the door and bought a set meal to pass the time. The quality of the food is basically the same as M, and the price is similar.
Day 3: 2013.03.31 Sunday, everyone rejoiced in my sad Easter Day...
At around 8 o'clock in the morning, I packed my luggage and left the airport, got on a shuttle bus, and drove to the pick-up place. The car rental company is called Adventure, and it has always contacted their company online. The place to pick up the car has also written an address in the email. We asked the I-site staff to help print a Google Map and gave it to the shuttle bus driver. We arrived smoothly. At that time, we thought that if we encountered any problems, we could find the all-powerful and enthusiastic I-site staff to help solve them. Later, we found out that we were wrong! Anyone from New Zealand is very enthusiastic about helping! Kiwi is really a lot of good people ~ The shuttle bus costs $9 per person. The more people this kind of bus, the cheaper it is.
When you arrive at the rental company, you pick up the car and pay. A total of 2000 RMB +2,208.68 New Zealand Yuan was spent. Including 14 days 'rental money, a GPS, all insurance policies, and daily necessities on the car. RMB 2000 is a deposit paid domestically. The rest of the fees will be swiped on the spot. The shuttle fare will be refunded to the credit card on the spot. It's so easy to operate without cash.
Car inspection, 6-person Mercedes-Benz RV. Test drive and drove around the car rental company. Keep to left, keep to left, the staff has been reminding...
After picking up the car, I went to fill up the gas. Damn it, a self-service gas station, and because of the Easter holiday, there was no staff on duty. In desperation, we used the public phone to call the police for help. The police uncle said that the next gas station is 13 kilometers away from you. If you can't find it, just wait for me to deliver some gas to you. I will arrive in about 40 minutes... I said thank you to the police officer and then rushed to the next gas station. After taking a lot of wrong detours, it can be said that the oil has been added. The RV burns diesel at $1.519/L. I added $80+ for the first time, and my heart tightened ~
I wanted to find a restaurant to have some food on the way, but everything I saw along the way was closed... Easter…Fortunately, the small supermarket at the gas station still sells water and bread. I wanted to find vodafone to apply for an Internet card, but Nima closed... Easter…We rushed to Kaikura and finally arrived at our destination after 5 p.m. I made an appointment for kaikura's sea fishing on April 1st, so I was in a hurry to come over first.
I stayed in Holiday Park for the first time and I really wanted to experience the feeling of cooking by myself. However, it was late and I couldn't help but feel hungry, so the nearby subway served dinner. Unexpectedly, kaikura's subway owner turned out to be a compatriot ~ This male compatriot has been immigrating for 20 years ~ He told us a lot of feelings, enjoying a leisurely and comfortable life in New Zealand. Education here is free and medical care is free. You can live an abundant life by working about 40 hours a week. Playing yachts and skiing during holidays is affordable for ordinary people. The living standards of people with high incomes and poor people are not far worse. Therefore, it is rare in New Zealand to work hard to earn money. Because, there is a fee, then what? In fact, life is not much different from what it is now. This makes us, who have been used to competing in the Han Dynasty since childhood, really envy it. I'm not a person who doesn't want to make progress, but I really don't like the current social environment. I want to live a comfortable life with the flow and not have to worry about what to do when I am old without saving enough expenses. Sigh, there are actually a lot of emotions I want to express, but forget it, I'm still speechless. So what? I cannot change this society. Try to save enough money before going out to play next time. Touch the pure land of my heart again and again. The talent makes me feel happy ~ There is a New World in Kaikura Town, which is one of the largest supermarket chains in the area. In New Zealand, there is also a large supermarket chain called CountDown.
Carry the food back to Alpine Pacific Holiday Park. The holiday park is actually a place dedicated to providing RV accommodation. The environment is like a Park~ There are several accommodation options to choose from: 1. Power Site, charged per head. Provide water and electricity connected to the RV; 2. Cabin, which can accommodate 2-6 people, and there are a variety of room types to choose from. Cabin with separate bathroom and separate kitchen is more expensive; 3. Dorm, mixed dormitory, only one bed, and the price is similar to that of Power Site.
Day 4: It started late on 2013.04.01. This is not an April Fool's Day joke...
Before going abroad, he booked Kaikura's sea fishing online. A local fisherman owned his own boat and ran the business together with his wife. He sent an email to communicate, but did not pay a deposit and only confirmed the time. After a full night's sleep, the alarm sounded, but no one heard it... It seems that he has not slept well in the past two days and is too tired. It turned out that the captain had scheduled to go to sea at 8 a.m. on April 1, but when he opened his eyes, it was 8 o'clock. I panicked and quickly called the captain. After apologizing, I asked if I could postpone the time by 30 minutes. The captain said yes, but there was another group of guests at 10 o'clock, and we only had one and a half hours left. I said no problem! I stopped brushing my teeth or washing my face, and drove straight to the captain's house. Fortunately, it only takes 5 minutes by car. The captain's wife drove a trailer, sent the boat to the harbor, and set sail for fishing ~!
The following are in order: me and the first mate, us and the captain, the big lobster, the red fish caught (according to the captain, the red fish is delicious), the small shark that got into the shrimp trap, and the royal albatross (Look at the size of him, the fish he ate is the one I hold in the photo...)!
Before setting out, the captain asked us whether we mainly wanted to see dolphins or fish? Of course I'm here for food rations! But I didn't expect that a large group of dolphins would follow us along the way, showing off how good they could swim... The money for sea fishing is $85 per person, including 2 hours of going to sea, and each person will be given a lobster. It's up to you how much fish you catch. The captain's boat is very powerful. It carries a radar and can detect where the fish are, so there is no need to worry about not catching fish or anything. Whales can still be seen in the right season.
It was already 10 o'clock in the morning after the sea fishing ended. I got up early and didn't eat. I was really hungry when I smelled the fresh sea goods... Driving to a seaside, carrying a gas tank in the car, catching fire for brunch...
After eating brunch at the seaside, keep on going. While stopping to rest in a small valley on the way, he accidentally entered private territory. At that time, we saw a small hill. There was a small river flowing under the hill. A small wooden bridge was built on the river. The small wooden bridge was connected to a faint path. There were dense forests on both sides of the path, and deep in the forest was a big house. Big house! Just as we were at a loss, the hospitable hostess came forward and explained the situation to us. The estate is the legacy of her grandmother and is 150 years old. The mountain top, the bridge over the river, and the forest all belong to her family... We suddenly felt very presumptuous. We have been wandering in other people's territory for so long, and we still think it's a park or something... Hurry up and praise her home for its beautiful scenery. As soon as the female lead was happy, she invited us to visit the manor! There was a small enclosed courtyard where a horse, a pig and a sheep were raised. The three of them are the favorites of the host family. I told the female protagonist that your family is like Madagascar. The female protagonist was happy again and asked us to go in and touch her three pets ~ At this time, the male protagonist also came back. I saw, good guy, this guy is the one standing on the top of the mountain and spraying pest control drugs. I thought it was a hired employee, but I didn't expect... The male owner brought a few apples from his orchard and asked us to feed them. Pigs and horses are not afraid of people, and sheep hate people very much, so they stay far away from us and can't entertain us no matter how much they want. The female owner said it was because it was sheared twice a year by humans. It's probably quite painful, so I don't have a good impression of stupid humans.
Arriving at Hammer River Holiday Park at dusk, I was surprised to find that the grass mud horse we had admired for a long time was staring at us in the woods! So some took pictures and some cooked cooked. Everything's fine.
There is a geothermal hot spring in Hammer Springs, and another Holiday Park is run on the spring. It costs about $50 including accommodation and hot spring. It's called Hammer Springs Holiday Park. There is only one store, no other branch. Students who want to go to Bubble should not take the wrong way to enter other stores ~
The long river and sunset in front of our door is very beautiful. Look at the picturesque scenery and enjoy a lobster feast ~! Today, make sauce.
Day 5: April 02 was a boring day. I left very late and arrived very late.
We've been on our way. Walking to a small town called Reefton, there is a famous attraction here, the lighthouse by the sea. We didn't go to see it, just replenished some food for dinner at the supermarket. Add a little oil. The price of diesel is $1.549/L, with an additional 54L. The I-site there is with the local library, selling postcards and stamps, as well as free wifi~ I sent postcards and boasted about photos in my circle of friends, and I felt happy ~. Everywhere we go, I-site can provide us with a lot of useful information and help. Free maps, surrounding accommodation and shopping guides, sightseeing guides, and even sunrise and sunset times ~~ A real estate agent in Reefton posted housing information on the roadside to make a display board, just like domestic chain homes and I Love My Home. Let's show you the photos and room prices of Reefton Supermarket ~ 80% of the chocolates in New Zealand are produced by Cadbury, and their headquarters is in New Zealand ~ This is a local brand. I was surprised to see domestic products in such a small supermarket!!! Li Jinji ~~! Famous, haha. You can buy a single-family courtyard locally for 30W of New Zealand, basically both front and rear courtyards. The interior is carefully decorated with furniture. The important thing is that permanent property rights... The son of Zhao Dynasty wanted to cry but had no tears. A second-hand bookstore in town. All prices are two yuan, and those with a marked price will be two yuan, and those without a marked price will be two yuan ~
When we arrived at Hokitika, the accommodation place, it was already getting dark, and we hurriedly prepared dinner. This day seemed like it had never been much. I didn't even get any pictures of the morning fog or sunset. It's all on the wheels. It was dragging its feet and didn't even have time to stop for photos when I saw the beautiful scenery halfway through. Depressed. There are only some photos of Hokitika Kiwi Holiday Park ~
I bought an Internet card from Holiday Park for $5 and 100G of traffic! Valid for 24 hours and can only be used on one device. If both people want to go online, they have to take turns. One person logs out and another person logs in.
Day 6: April 03 If you stop, you must understand and appreciate the surrounding scenery.
When I got up early in the morning, it was still drizzling, as if it had not stopped all night. Let's go to the seaside to see the sea! I bought something to eat at Fish and chips in town for dinner. Fried fish + fried potato chips + coffee set =$9 Day 7: April 04, the sky is high and the RV bound for Mount Cook is about to leave.
Get up early in the morning and the weather is fine. Drive into the car and go to New World Supermarket in Hokitika town to replenish the goods. I met Vodafond's store and picked out an Internet card. Now I can be proud at any time ~.$ 30, including 500M traffic, 50 minutes of local call time, 5000 text messages... Valid for 1 month.
Get on the road and head towards Mount Cook! Today's destination is the glacier ~
The road is getting colder and colder. I don't know if it is because the altitude is getting higher or because autumn is getting closer. Passing by a lake, I saw big mussels in the crystal clear water. I was instantly excited, this was food rations! Regardless of the fact that the water is a little cold, take off your shoes and socks, and expose your arms and sleeves! The harvest was quite good!
It's lunch break time and take a nap by the lake. The black-maned horse I saw on the roadside. New Zealand silver fern leaves in autumn.
Soon after driving the car, I saw the guide sign of Franz Josef Glacier. Following the sign, you quickly found the glacier of Mount Cook National Forest!
Every day, staff from DOC (abbreviation for the Environmental Guard Agency) come to inspect the condition of the glacier and record the data on notice boards for tourists to refer to. Pay attention to safety when climbing glaciers ~ Wear sports clothing, shoes and socks, pay attention to sun protection, and don't go to dangerous places. See the notice for details ~
At the foot of the glacier, the sun is still shining brightly. But halfway up the mountain, it began to rain. Climbing to the observation deck, it still couldn't stop. Just as we took a few photos and planned to return to the foot of the mountain, the rain stopped. What was even more surprising was that two rainbows, one in front and the other behind, crossed the glacier and hung in front of us! God's colored pens are 3D ~! The surprise came unexpected. That's why photographers often say: Bad weather is a good friend ~
It was afternoon after arriving from Franz Josef Glacier, and we drove to the town with the same name as Fox Glacier. The two glaciers are about 25 kilometers apart. In order to go to Fox Glacier early the next morning, we lived in this town and chose Fox Glacier Top 10 Holiday Park. The Power Site price is $45 for two people. After booking accommodation and seeing that there was still time, I rushed to Lake Matheson, Lake Matherson, which was only a few minutes 'drive from the camp.
The lake was blocked by nearby mountains. When we arrived at sunset, we only photographed the afterglow of the sunset in the calm lake. On the other hand, on the top of Mount Cook in the distance, the white snow reflected the warm light of the sunset and turned into a golden roof.
Cattle on Lake Matheson.
The snowy peaks of Mount Cook in the distance return to the camp to cook and rest. The night in the glacier area is really cold. We later switched to a camp cabin. Electric heater + small red wine to fall asleep quickly.
Day 8: April 05 Fox Gllacier and Lake Hawer, and the White Rock Coast with a lot of sandflies!!
Start early and drive from the campsite to the foot of Fox Gllacier Mountain in about 20 minutes. You can hear the roar of sightseeing helicopters along the way ~ The trails here are covered with gravel, which is worse than Franz Josef Glacier's uphill road. A section of the cliff cut off due to glacier movement can be seen below the mountain.
The grayish-white part between the two mountains is the glacier, which moves very fast. Falling almost every day. It won't be long before the natural landscape of this ice age journey will completely melt away. A young father came to see the glacier on his back with his daughter who was under the age of one year. There was a black figure walking on the glacier in the distance. This requires a professional coach to lead the team. Otherwise it is very dangerous. Falling into either huge or narrow glacier caves, there is little hope of survival. At the end of the observation deck where climbing is allowed, only a rope and a sign tell people that it is forbidden to move forward without a coach. No one was guarding it. For the safety of your own life, rely on self-awareness. Because the glaciers that slide down the mountain look dirty... But looking inside the glacier, it is deep blue.
Get off Fox Glacier and continue on, passing a coast covered with large milky white rocks. Many stones have been filled with messages in all languages. Haha! I also wrote a piece. If anyone sees my stone, take a photo for me! This one below is my stone! Write a memorial that belongs to us and leave it in the scenery that cannot be taken away. I've been here before. Important tip: There are many sand flies here! We were all bitten. This kind of product may carry the virus, and after being bitten, it may cause sandfly fever. The symptoms are like fever, and the body temperature rises. The most common symptom is that the bitten part is red, swollen, bleeding, and very itchy. Any medication that relieves itching or reduces swelling will not work. Remember, when going to this coast or lake with a lot of rotten wood and weeds, you must apply or spray anti-mosquito drugs to keep these little insects away from you. If you are bitten, don't scratch it! Bear with it... If you leave it alone, it will be fine in about 3 days. Remember, remember!!
Biowu rushed to stay in the town of Lake Hawea with the same name. A town built along the lake has at most dozens of households and a hundred people. Many such towns in New Zealand are very small. They are as small as there is no gas station and you have to go to the next town about 20KM away to refuel; as small as there is only one supermarket and also a coffee shop; as small as there is only one main road leading to other surrounding towns (the advantage is that you can't take the wrong way); as small as there is only one restaurant serving Hot Food at night (fortunately, the food quality is quite good!); It was so small that there were almost no street lights at night, and we relied entirely on the flashlight function of our mobile phones to find our campsite for a part of the way...
But because of all these, we enjoy tranquility and leisure like locals. Life is like this, what more can I ask for?
Lake Hawea Supermarket + Cafe has currency wall, Table and large fries, gorgeous dinner, fireplace ~
Day 9: Lunch break in Lake Wanaka on April 06, and most stores in Arrowtown are closed at 4 pm?! Queenstown's Big Burger is highly recommended!
The Lake Hawea Holiday Park where we stayed was right by the lake and we got up early in the morning to take pictures of the morning mist rising from the lake. Some Europeans come here to play and are not afraid of the cold. They have always lived in their cars and parked their cars very close to the lake. They are close to nature 7*24.
We stayed in a colorful cabin. On the way to Lake Wanaka in the early morning, I passed the famous Puzzle World but didn't enter because the ticket was 30+/person... I took some photos outside. Arrived at Lake Wanaka at noon, happily feeding seagulls and ducks by the lake, enjoying every inch of sunshine, comfortable ~~ I dreamed that I had a wooden house by the lake, and I accompanied my friends every day, reading and painting, making pastries and making coffee, cleaning the courtyard, and running and walking dogs. Then I woke up smiling ~ I think I had!
After having lunch in Lake Wanaka, I lay lazily on the sand on the shore of the lake and took a warm nap. Drive towards Queenstown in the afternoon. Passing by Arrowtown. It was around 4:30 pm when we arrived, and there were only a few shops open... Most local businesses end their day's operations at 4 o'clock and go back to spend time with their families. It's a very small town ~ Friendly reminder: There is no gas station here ~ It's about 20KM away from the recent gas station ~ After a brief stroll around this town, I'll go to Queenstown to stay! Stayed at Bungi Backpacker at night. A separate room for 2 people costs $64. The Internet card here is IAC, 100G, valid for 24 hours,$3/card ~! Compared to the price of $5 each at Holiday Park, it's almost a 50% discount ~ Get two tickets properly! Don't wait for another person, haha! I went to eat the big burger FergBurger for dinner!$ 17.5/It's too big, enough for the two of us. The store is very small. There are only 3 tables and a mini bar in the store. There are two open-air tables outside the store. We went to eat at 10 p.m., and there were still about 5 people in line in front of us... Passing by at around 6 o'clock the next night, haha, there are so many people in front of you, that means you have been waiting for more than an hour! It tastes good! The weight is also large. It's really worth the price ~ his family's fastest burger eating record is 1 minute and 43 seconds... I don't know if I can break this record and get free meals ~ above!
Day 10: April 07 A day of comfort in Queenstown.
Bungi Backpacker's PP~ booked a round-trip ticket for the Peak Tram and a sightseeing buffet lunch package at the I-site for $51 per person. You have to arrive half an hour before the appointment time, otherwise it will be cancelled... During the peak season, there are many reservations ~ if you miss it, you won't be there ~ stroll around the town after you have enough food and drink. I accidentally saw the picturesque night view ~ Day 11: Take the bus to Dunedin on April 08 ~~~ Rented a new car again!~
I got up very early today. I checked out and went to the town center to wait for the bus heading for Dunedin. We are taking the bus to our next destination! $41 per person ~ Halfway through the car and resting, I saw the NZ Bank office building and a family's small garden. Arrive in Dunedin in the afternoon and check into Central Backpacker. Right in the center of the city and the location is very good. You can just get to the Bell Tower and the library when you go out. The local wireless Internet is free, covering this Backpacker~ saves Internet fees! I like it! This is the cat kept by the owner ~
This is the face of Central Backpacker. BBH members ~ If you hold a BBH membership card, you can enjoy discounts. I'm hungry, eat Turkish barbecue rolls ~~~ Parking in the center of Dunedin is very expensive ~! I have seen with my own eyes traffic police come every half hour to inspect the parking payment situation. Each parking space is allowed for up to 2 hours during the day. You have to come and move the car when you exceed the time, otherwise you will be fined miserably! Also, the receipt for parking fees must be placed in a conspicuous position in front of the car window, otherwise you will be fined based on non-payment of parking fees... The end was also miserable!
Dunedin City Library, directly opposite the Central back packer where we lived ~! Night view of Dunedin. Bell Tower Please call me Sister Yaner ~! Night view of Dunedin Railway Station. This train station has been opened since 1906. What is commendable is not only its beautiful design, but also that this train station is still in normal use today!!! It's a real old building ~ not the kind that's demolished and rebuilt ~ Dear people, you understand ~!
Day 12: April 09 Activity 1: Visit Cadbury Chocolate Factory! Got a lot of free chocolates! It's worth it ~ Activity 2: Peeping at the shy little penguin is successful!
Go visit Cadbury Chocolate Factory first in the morning ~ This event requires an appointment one day in advance during the peak season. Adult fare is $20/person. The visit time is approximately 2 hours. No communication and photographic equipment are allowed into the venue. There is a special storage location to provide bag storage services. The earliest visit time is 9 a.m. The latest visit time is 2 p.m. Cadbury's headquarters is in Dunedin, and the location of this visit is the headquarters production base. It is also the birthplace of the Cadbury brand. Its location is directly opposite Dunedin Railway Station ~ It is a very conspicuous purple chimney!~ It is about a 10-minute walk from our accommodation.
Chocolate Bunny for Easter ~~~ The entrance guide The Cadbury classic car is not allowed to take photos, videotape or record when visiting the interior, so the morning visit is like this ~
I found an Indian restaurant for lunch, and the menu...Although it's English, I really can't understand a word! TM All kinds of ingredients are transliteration! Damn it...... I rely entirely on speculation to order food, and I rely entirely on RP what I eat! The results for my husband and I were pretty good... Go see penguins after dinner. I passed the most oblique street in the world-Baldwin Street) and was selected into the Guinness World Records ~ It was really oblique, and I was tired to climb up... There is a direct drinking faucet at the top of the street in a humane manner... Hahaha! I must drink some water to rest my breath ~
There are a lot of seal watching activities on Dunedin's Omaru Peninsula! Some agencies can provide door-to-door pickups and arrange lectures. But the fees are high. About each person's money is around $40, and the activity lasts about 3 hours. Some observation points are actually completely free and can be reached by car. Some fee-paying observation points allow visitors to take photos, and the animals there have been domesticated and even look a little like creatures grown up in zoos and are not so afraid of people. We drove to Sandfly Bay, a free observation site in DOC, which requires a little luck to see wild animals. Weather, light, and seasons are all factors that affect observations. Wild animals, especially penguins, are very afraid of people. As long as someone talks or appears, they will not come ashore from the sea. They usually return to their nests around 6 p.m., which is the best time to watch them waddle from the sea to the beach. While walking, I suddenly encountered this guy rushing out from somewhere, which scared me to death!!! The man wearing an orange-red vest is a staff member of DOC and is stationed at the observation point. Responsible for monitoring and recording data on wild animals here, such as how many seals appear today, when they return home, etc. You need to use a telescope to see clearly... It would be really hard to find a seal if it lay motionless on the rocks! After dark, rush to another beach not far away to see the world's smallest penguin-the blue penguin. This penguin only returns to its nest when it is just dark in the dusk. It is also afraid of light and cannot use flashlights or cameras to use lights. So although we saw these little cute animals, we couldn't record them and present them to everyone. In the wild, the best way to observe is to hide around the area where they must return to their nests an hour earlier, and wait quietly. Some fee-paying observation points have domesticated blue penguins that can be taken. Friends who want to take photos should not disturb them in the natural environment!~
Day 13: I saw a lot of Fur Seal on April 10!!! Golden-eyed penguins and seagulls are good friends ~
I went to the supermarket to replenish some goods before leaving Dunedin. Then drive in the direction of Aomaru. There was a sign on the road that said Shag Point. You can see another seal here, called Fur Seal, a fur seal. It is much smaller than the one you encountered on the coast the night before. Hurry up and drive there. Walking along the coastline, I met many, many locals, all living in beautiful houses on the coastline. I was envious ~~~ Driving for about 10 minutes, walking to the end of the coastline, you will see the DOC sign!~ There was a seal lying in the grass, spitting, and those of us with bad eyes almost stepped on it... Fortunately, I stopped my feet in time. The seal awakened by the exclamation looked up, looked up at us with sleepy eyes, and fell asleep again... The courage is getting bigger and bigger, playing the game of watching who is closer... These things are not vegetarian animals, they eat penguins... The rock behind him is full of this stuff... (There are stupid humans looking at us across the street...) The moving posture is so funny... Like maggots ~ Fur Seal's introduction, you can directly save your mother ~
We left Shag Point and continued to move forward. We passed a farm. We accidentally saw it on the roadside. We have been wanting to find a farm and have a look for it these days, so we drove in ~ I didn't expect it to be quite historical here. This farm was one of the first places to export meat to the UK in 1882. The farm is now maintained and managed by people from the town, and there is a fee for visiting. It seems like $8 per person. We were stingy and expensive, but we were hungry, so we bought coffee and afternoon tea here. The person in charge here very kindly hinted that we were allowed to enter the farm for dinner! Hahaha ~ It's equivalent to spending $6 to visit the farm and giving away afternoon tea ~ Kaisen!~
In the afternoon, I arrived at Oamaru, the hometown of penguins. I had to go and see the baby penguins again. The streets here are full of penguin signs, and there are also signs for penguins to pay attention to. On the way to see penguins, I also saw farmers selling honey. 1KG of honey sells for $10, which I think is quite cheap! Original and original, produced by the original factory, which is more cost-effective than branded ones sold in supermarkets and souvenir shops. There are many penguin watching activities here in Oamaru, and there is a detailed introduction of penguin watching activities on the I-site. But they are all paid activities. If you want to see penguins without charge, you still need to find DOC observation points. In the center of the picture below, the little white thing is the golden-eyed penguin. This one did not leave the nest for a day and was squatting at home. The DOC manager said that maybe TA was incubating eggs.
This shop makes handmade soaps. His soap is a complete work of art. The shape is exquisite, and the taste is very consistent with the shape. Chocolate cake-shaped soap tastes chocolate; lemon-shaped soap tastes lemon; toothpaste shaped soap tastes mint!
It's all soap at once, not food ~ Oamaru's radio station is semi-open and allows tourists to visit it for free. It was on the air when we arrived. And the announcer is a grandfather and a grandmother, very loving. Oamaru's Opera House, which says: Picasso visited. End today's trip with a hearty dinner! Beautiful ~ Day 14: I went to the winery for wine tasting on April 11. The driver couldn't taste it because he was driving, so he was quite depressed ~ Hahaha! Before arriving at Lake Tekapo, I successfully found a salmon farm and bought fresh salmon. This dinner party was quite luxurious.
Before leaving Oamaru in the morning, I saw a majestic church next to the parking space and went in to play. Although I have no faith, I am in awe of the gods of any religion. After leaving Oamaru, take a look at the streets here again ~
There is an attraction very close to the south of Aomaru called Elephant Rock. This is one of the locations where "Narnia 1" was filmed. This is where the Lion Asseland's position is stationed. Peter was riding a unicorn and holding a sword in his hand. When confronting the ice and snow witch, he shouted "For Narnia" and rushed down a huge rock. The huge rock was somewhere among them... In reality, Elephant Rock is a private territory, only a part of which is open to the public and is allowed to enter and visit. Closed areas are enclosed with barbed wire. Visit here is free. The sign is relatively small... Easy to miss. Another attraction adjacent to Elephant Rock is Vanished World. You can see ancient murals, coral fossils, and other archaeological traces left by the Maori. The Vanished World centre is a museum that is allowed to visit for free and introduces information such as dinosaur fossils unearthed here and landscape changes.
Halfway through the car, it was lunchtime, and there was a big photo of a winery on the roadside. I was obliged to taste it! The winery is responsible for explaining to us is a handsome German guy ~ This is the LOGO label of a pink wine in his family. The most famous wine in New Zealand is this wine called Pinot. However, rough people like me don't like to drink wines with too much tannin, only like sweet sparkling wines ~~ About 40 minutes, I visited the winery and learned about the entire wine-making process. During this period, I went to the grape plantation to see different varieties of grapes; climbed up the brewing tower and saw the grape juice that was fermenting; and operated the filling line with my own hands... There is too much news. I have almost no research on alcohol. It's very difficult to listen to. Of course, tasting is indispensable after the visit ~ Hahaha! This is the purpose! Drivers are driving and can't drink alcohol. They're always depressed. In order to soothe the driver and satisfy our own cravings, we bought another bottle of sweet white that tasted quite appetizing. This winery also sells honey products on behalf, which are relatively expensive. As for wine, because of its good raw materials and complex brewing process, it is more expensive than in supermarkets. If you want to bring gifts, it is still cost-effective to the supermarket.
Feeling sleepy after drinking alcohol... Found a place to rest. I saw the poisonous mushrooms in the cartoon. It was so cute ~ No wonder there was always the temptation to taste it ~ There was a little hedgehog in the bushes and it didn't escape... But he wouldn't eat apples or carrots when fed him. I wonder what he likes to eat. After continuing on the road, I felt that I had to drink some seafood for dinner. We knew there would be a salmon farm on this road before we reached today's destination, Lake Tekapo, so we searched all the way. It was almost 5 p.m. when it was time to get off work. God didn't disappoint me. Finally, we drove to the fishing ground...!! Buy it! Mustard and sushi soy sauce are provided for free ~ When the backpack inn is set up, start cooking ~ This dinner must be arrogant. At that time, there was also a Taiwanese brother and a Hong Kong girl in the living room. They said at least three times: Wow, your dinner is so delicious...
Day 15: A bright day in Lake Tekapo on April 12. At night, the Good Shepherd Church interacts with the Milky Way.
I got up early in the morning and looked across the lake. I saw 4 or 5 tourist buses parked before the Good Shepherd Church, full of tourists. We didn't go forward to join in the fun. In a town like Lake Tekapo with a population of only 100+, various hotels, inns, and backpackers inns built along the lake have excellent viewing platforms. Don't worry about where to live. Walking from the backpacker inn where we stayed to the lake, World Customs Network, there seemed to be a clear fog in the early morning air, lingering outside our bodies with the refreshing feeling of early autumn. This is the scenic spot we have seen the most people in more than ten days... This is the common living room of the backpacker inn where we stayed. This town is very rich in water resources. In addition to the famous Lake Tekapo, there are many lakes connected to it. And various complete trails. Time and length can meet various needs. After breakfast, we decided to walk along a 2-hour trail on the shores of Lake Tekapo to collect the wind ~~ The lake water here gave off a creamy blue color because of a local limestone that was washed by rain. It turned into powder and scattered into the lake. However, this powder is insoluble in water, so when viewed from a distance, under the reflection of the sun, it presents this smooth and even turbid color, but when viewed up close, it is clear and transparent. I saw another lake on the road and accidentally discovered the precious black swan. Compared with noble swans, certain creatures are a loser.
After a leisurely lunch and lunch break, go to the Good Shepherd Church and take a few tips: Because the place in Lake Tekapo is so small, the restaurants here are not open all day long, and lunch time is at the latest at 2:30... After this time, the store will not do your business. If you want to eat, please come back for dinner. Good collie... This statue is on the lake shore not far from the church.
Then drive to the observatory on the top of Mt John on the lake. The astronomical observatory at Mt John was funded by the University of Canterbury. At the foot of the mountain are several lakes connected. This is a commanding height several kilometers around. And there is little light pollution at night, making it an excellent place to observe the stars.
Look from Mt John to the Good Shepherd Church at the foot of the mountain. When I went down the mountain, I could see fog rising between the mountains in the distance. I went back to the backpack inn to prepare dinner, washed up, chatted, and waited until around 10 p.m. to go out again to the Good Shepherd Church to shoot the star orbit. If the weather is good, stars will appear in large numbers at night around 8 o'clock. The Good Shepherd Church is a 10-minute walk away. We have seen it many times during the day. But as night falls, and the Milky Way crosses the sky and hangs above the church, we still feel the strange and shocking sight. Such a starry sky is too unreal. The distant starlight is beating and seems within reach. Occasionally, shooting stars disappeared in a flash, causing a low cheer from people. Much of what I saw and felt could not be captured with a camera. So go, go to New Zealand, it's definitely a pure trip.
On the 16th day, April 13, the mountain road here has eighteen turns, with mountains and water in Akaroa
We got up before dawn to visit the early morning Lake Tekapo and Shepherd Church again. I am about to leave, and I am more and more nostalgic for all things in New Zealand. The people we meet are urban smiling, friendly, and enjoying a few words of conversation; the scenery we see is pure, natural, and rarely artificial. I want to stop time and keep me forever. Let's go, let's go, and there's the beautiful town of Akaroana. From Lake Tekapo to Akaroa, when it was almost approaching, I looked at the map and found that it was only about an hour's drive. Who would have thought that this section of the road would start winding the mountain? It rained again on the mountain. To be careful, the car drove very slowly. We didn't get to town until lunchtime was almost over. Find a place to eat first ~ Big Pizza and hot chocolate are the best to ward off the cold ~ Seeing that it was raining, the store owner kindly lit the fireplace. It's so warm near the fireplace. The fatigue disappeared suddenly.
After lunch, I wanted to find an inn to set up myself before going out. Who would have thought that it would be the weekend? People from Christchurch would come here for a vacation. This French-style port town has become the back garden of Christchurch. In a small town, we inquired from house to house, but the results were either full or there was no room for us... Without any measures, we had to call the farm a little further away. One family was full, and the other had spare rooms, so they promised to keep them for us until 6 p.m.
This is a backpacker inn in the town. It was introduced on LP and I really liked this place. Our ten-day accommodation along the way was arranged after arriving, and we have never been so nervous. Sigh ~ Regrettably ~ It's very heart-warming to see the all-purple decoration of his house ~ I will definitely book this house in advance next time ~! Cher La Mer! This was our last place to stay. The sign on the mountain farm ~ the roadside said: If you walk until there is no way to go, you will find us... When I drove there, I realized that this farm was on the top of the mountain. There was really no way to go! View of Port Akaroa from the mountains: This was our last night in New Zealand. There are only 11 beds in the store in total. There are not many entertainment facilities on the mountain. The guests all go back to their rooms early to rest. I couldn't sleep. When I fell asleep, I thought I heard someone telling me: The plane is about to take off ~ shit... I woke up!
