Sama Festival: A different "Dong Women's Day"
On December 18, more than 2000 ethnic minority compatriots in Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province traveled in costumes to celebrate the Sama Festival. "Sama" was a heroine in the matriarchal society of the Dong people, and the Dong language meant "great grandmother". Sama Festival is known as the "Women's Day of the Dong Nationality". In 2006, the Dong Sama Festival was included in the first batch of national-level "intangible cultural heritage" lists.
At this Sama Festival, ethnic minorities in Rongjiang County held traditional Dong ritual rituals, as well as Dong songs, folk folk songs, and folk bird fighting performances.
