After Uyghur Muqam art was selected into the representative list of human oral and intangible cultural heritage, Xinjiang's Kirgiz heroic epic "Manas" has also been included in the latest batch of United Nations representative lists of human intangible cultural heritage.

The fourth meeting of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage ended in Abu Dhabi on October 2.

The meeting reviewed and approved the inclusion of the 76 projects in the "Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity", including 22 projects declared by China, and the epic "Manas" was among them.

Yesterday, the relevant person in charge of the Ministry of Culture confirmed that he had received accurate news that "Manas" was successful in its "heritage application." This is another milestone event in the protection of intangible cultural heritage in Xinjiang following the selection of "China Xinjiang Uyghur Muqam Art" into the human oral and intangible cultural heritage representative list on November 25, 2005.

"Manas" is a heroic epic of the Kirgiz people and one of the three epics of our country.

It is mainly circulated in Kirgiz inhabited areas such as Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture in Xinjiang and the Turks Grassland."Manas" is also circulated in Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and northern Afghanistan in Central Asia.

This is an epic with world influence.

The epic takes the stories of eight heroes including Manas clues and describes all aspects of the politics, economy, history, philosophy, culture and social life of the ancient Kirgiz people.

It is an encyclopedia for studying the ancient Kirgiz people.

In thousands of years of singing, singers have always carved and processed epics to make them more perfect, resulting in different styles of different texts.

Among them, Jusufu Mamayi, who lives in Xinjiang, China, is currently the only person in the world who can fully sing eight "Manas".

It is understood that in addition to "Manas", China has included in this batch list include: China sericulture and silk weaving skills, Fujian Nanyin, Nanjing Yunjin, Anhui rice paper, Guizhou Dong song, Guangdong Cantonese opera,"Gesar" epic, Zhejiang Longquan celadon, Qinghai Regong art, Tibetan opera, Mongolian Humai, Gansu Huaer, Xi'an drum music, Korean agricultural music and dance, calligraphy, seal cutting, paper-cutting, woodblock printing, traditional wood structure creation skills, Dragon Boat Festival, and Mazu belief customs.

Previously, three batches of representative works of human intangible cultural heritage have been announced, and the total number of projects approved for inclusion in the list in China has topped the list.
