A festival custom in the Mali Desert in Africa-Fishing Festival
In the heart of Mali's desert, there is a magical pond "Bamba Lake". It is said that the first person to discover this pond was a girl named Yabugo in ancient times. Later generations will respectfully call her the "Holy Lake Girl".
Every year, with the approaching of the dry season, the water in Lake Bamba continues to decrease and finally becomes a wide muddy puddle. During the rainy season, a large number of fish fry are hatched. On the fishing festival, the fish fry here have grown into big fish., become prey for people.
Bamba Lake is the only place in the area with water, so people only get one chance to catch fish a year. Fishing is an important production activity in some West African countries. With the passage of time, long-term fishing and production labor have formed the festival custom of holding celebrations before opening fishing every year to pray for peace and a bumper harvest.
At this point, the Dogon men from the surrounding tribes held a sacred gathering here every year. Such gatherings are now a unique spectacle on the African continent.
