Nepalese folk story: back story
once upon a time, there was a poor family in the village with four members, grandfather, father, mother and grandson.
grandpa had worked hard for years and was too old to work and had to rely on his son and daughter-in-law to feed.
and they took grandpa as a heavy burden.
days passed and they thought the old man was getting sick.
grandpa needed help, but neither his son nor his daughter-in-law was willing to take care of him, and he was often starved.
they left him some leftovers, so he swallowed his belly, and they gave him his rags, and he wore them.
sometimes the grandson can't see through it and gives him his share.
but if the parents see him, grandpa will be scolded for spoiling the food.
they treated the elderly in such a way as to upset their grandfather, who complained frequently.
instead of trying to comfort him, both of them repeated the old adage: “the old cow's feet are shaky and the old man complains.” the situation is getting worse and older people are talking more and more; both are becoming impatient.
finally, they couldn't stand the old man and began to talk quietly about how to get rid of him.
they decided to take the old man far away and leave him alone.
the husband said he was going to buy a back on the market — a big basket of bamboo made up of bamboo — and put grandpa in there to carry him far away.
the husband said, "i'm going to send him to a very, very far place where he can't go home.
i put him under a tree by the road, and maybe someone will pity him and take care of him.” "but what would the neighbors say?" the wife said, "they'll soon find out grandpa's not home.
and if they ask grandpa, what are we going to say?" the husband said, "just say he wants us to send him to a holy place where he wants to spend his days in peace." they've talked about it, but their grandkids heard everything they didn't think of.
the father went to the market to buy his back, and when he went out, the child asked his mother, "mom, why did you throw grandpa out?" look, there's no one at home to take care of him because your dad and i are working all day.
that's when your dad decided to send grandpa to a place where he could get more care.” "where is that place?" the kid asked.
"oh, far away.
you don't know that place.
but don't worry, there'll be a lot of good people out there looking after him." mother said so to reassure the children。
