What is Yin Yoga

Theory of Yin Yoga

In other words, Paul Grilley used a Westerner to find the principle of balance between yin and yang in China, and then incorporated some anthropological perspectives to develop a set of theories. In other words, he believes that after frequently practicing postures that pay more attention to muscle strength training, we need to have soothing movements to lengthen our muscles and tendons, so that the body will not pay too much attention to muscles and reduce softness; only movements will reduce the time you have in contact with your soul.

Therefore, the movements he designed were not difficult, such as: butterfly pose, split leg forward pose... These movements are not "heavyweight" for people who regularly practice postures. However, what's difficult about it is: each action stays for about 5 minutes. In other words, each action is one action after another under the condition of stringing + staying.

Paul Grillry believes that to do Yin yoga, in addition to the coordination of breathing, there is also a principle, that is, the lower body should be extended and the upper body should have a little muscle exercise. Because he believes that most people only exercise their legs for walking, running or muscle training, and they don't stretch enough, so they need to add muscles. But for balance, some muscles in the upper body need to be practiced.

Differences between East and West

Paul Grilley's theory is mainly designed for Westerners who like to exercise muscles. Even if they do yoga, they like Ashtanga Yoga or Force Yoga, which has a feeling of muscle training. Therefore, they need to use lacing methods to achieve balance.

Yoga has always focused on stretching poses, so you will feel that Yin Yoga's movements are very familiar and nothing. If your past asanas already put a lot of emphasis on softness, you don't need to practice Yin yoga anymore, because it will overstretch our muscles and connective tissue.

But if you have been focusing on practicing recently, you can use Yin yoga to stretch muscles and tendons that you don't usually notice. However, it stretches for a long time, so please don't stay at your maximum limit. For example, when splitting, please don't cut to the maximum angle, but be conservative and retract some back, so that you don't overdo it when stretching the muscles for a long time. Injury oh ~

As Paul Grilley said, only when Yin and Yang reach balance can we harmonise and reach a more joyful level. Isn't it? (Editor in charge: Tian Tian)
