Eating too little protein can lead to hunger

According to Xinhua Agency, researchers in Australia and the United Kingdom have found that when you consume too little protein, that is, when protein accounts for less than 15% of calories, people are prone to feeling hungry, resulting in eating more snacks and consuming extra calories, which is detrimental to maintaining a healthy weight.

Researchers at the University of Sydney in Australia and the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom recruited 22 volunteers. The researchers had them eat three meals in the laboratory, including the same meal and optional snacks.

Volunteers said that they felt more hungry two hours after breakfast on the first four days than on the next eight days, and the hunger was the same on the next eight days. Therefore, the volunteers chose more snacks in the first four days and consumed an extra 1036 calories. If you do not take extra exercise, based on this calculation, you may gain about 1 kilogram a month.

Experimental results show that people have a strong appetite for protein. When the proportion of protein in food is low, this appetite can encourage people to consume extra calories.
